Background to the creation of this site

This is the home of the Canada Water Campaign and Canada Water Consultative Forum.

Ruth Kelly, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, has requested Southwark Council to designate Rotherhithe as urban in the Council's Unitary Development Plan, against the wishes of the Council and the Community - see Latest News.

Also see Latest News for reports and updates and pictures for the new Canada Water Library, Mulberry Business Park and Site C - Waterside View.

BL Canada Quays have submitted revised planning applications for Sites A, B and the Public Realm - click here for full information

Here is the only place online where you will find the Planning Applications for Sites A&B, Design Code (was supposed to be on Canadawater-Southwark) and the Arup Transport Assessment and EDCO Public Realm documents.

The total redevelopment of Canada Water in London SE16 is about to start. The community aspiration is for a "low, clean and green" waterside development, preserving and enhancing the attractions of Canada Water itself but also becoming a community focus rather than a barren set of car parks. The community - through the Canada Water Campaign - has been fighting hard to preserve the dock and to prevent overdevelopment whilst achieving the facilities that are badly needed.

A British Land/Canada Quays consortium was chosen as the preferred developer-led team to masterplan development at Canada Water following extensive public consultation. This followed Southwark Council's adoption of the Master Developer Brief and the Planning & Design Principles & Technical Appendices which the Canada Water Consultative Forum worked so hard on. Their first applications gave been submitted for sites A &B (see above).
